July 4th Parade Committee Meeting Dates, Grand Marshall, Parade Theme & Poem Contest

At the meeting held on May 1, 2024 the July 4th Parade Committee selected Christopher Tuttle as

Grand Marshall of the July 4th Parade.
 
Mr. Tuttle has been a resident of Maywood for over 40 years and has served Maywood in the 
following capacities:
 
1) Volunteer fireman for over 25 years and past Chief of the Maywood Fire Department
2)  Member of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM)
3)  Former President & Coach of the Maywood Youth Athletic Association (MYAA)
4)  Former Coach of the Maywood Girls Softball 
5)  Participates in various fund raising events
 
Congratulations to Mr. Tuttle as the 2024 Grand Marshall of the 2024 July 4th Parade.

 

1)  The July 4th Parade Committee has scheduled meetings for the 2024 July 4th Parade as follows: Apr. 3rd; May 1st & June 5th.  Meetings are held at the Maywood American Legion, 135 E. Passaic Street, Maywood, NJ.  Any organization or members of the public are invited to attend.

 2)  2024 Grand Marshall nominations are due by May 1st.  Nominees must be a resident of Maywood and have served the Borough of Maywood in some capacity.  Please mail a letter of nomination with a description of why you feel the nominee should be Grand Marshall to Martha De young, 8 Orchard Place, Maywood, NJ. 07607.  Please mark on the outside of the envelope “2024 Grand Marshall Nomination”.  Nominations are due by May 1, 2024.

 3)  Any veteran who has served in the Military and would like to participate in the 2024 Parade is asked to contact Tom Richards at 201-906-6625 as soon as possible.  You may also call the Maywood American Legion at 201-845-8226 or send an e-mail to alpost142@optimum.net.

4)  At the March 6, 2024 July 4th Parade Committee meeting, the Committee selected “Maywood….Known For Service To Country And Community” as the theme for this year’s Parade.  Organizations, floats, costumed children or decorated bicycles are encouraged to dress or decorate according to the above theme.

5)  The July 4th Parade Committee has decided to have a poem contest for this year's Parade.  The theme is “Maywood….Known For Service To Country And Community”.  The contest is sponsored by the Maywood Historical Committee *with a prize to be determined by said Committee.  Any Maywood resident who is a student in the 4th through 8th grades may enter this contest.  The poem must be about the above theme.  The winner’s poem will be included in the 2024 July 4th Program and the winner will be invited to ride in the Parade.  Entries must be mailed to Martha DeYoung, 8 Orchard Place, Maywood, NJ 07607 by May 31, 2024.  Please mark on the envelope “Poem Contest”.
